The SOLE ‘thing’ at the ACTUAL South Pole is a Reseach Oupost which houses the personel manning the ICECUBE Neutrino detection apparatus, located there.
Drilled - via steamjet - into roughly a mile of Ice are hundreds and hundreds of Optical Sensors on LONG cables which ARE how ICECUBE effects detection of unique particle ‘sprays’ which arise whenever a High-Energy Neutrino improbably DOES strike a terrestrial atom.
Given that - as a measure of probability - virtually ALL Neutrino’s should ‘usually’ pass through a Light-Year thick leaden shield, that endeavor is rather technically challenging, as you might guess.
Trying to ascribe FANTASTIC purposes to rather ordinary things, installations and whatnot can be FUN, I admit…but here - as with HAARP in AK, another ‘Urban Myth’ which I used to live next to - is simply misguiding others.
